About Old School Kitchen
At the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr. Shawn Landry, CEO of QBE LLC and founder of The QBE Foundation, in partnership with Miguel Pires, restaurateur and owner of Zandra's Taqueria, created the initiative, Old School Kitchen. The mission of Old School Kitchen is to combat food insecurity in the Northern Virginia community by providing meals for those in need. The QBE Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating positive change both close to home in Haymarket, VA and on a global scale. As an entreprenuer, Mr. Pires' newest venture is the expansion of Zandra’s Taqueria to Haymarket, VA.
Several simultaneous issues are occurring due to the Covid-19 pandemic. There is a shortage of healthy protein and produce available to the general public. When the stores are temporarily restocked, many people are anxious to shop and potentially expose themselves to the virus. Additionally, numerous restaurants are now, unfortunately, closed due to an extreme shortage of customers. These circumstances produce an abundance of restaurant grade food available for use. Through the Old School Kitchen initiative, we have put this food to good use by feeding those in need and reducing food waste.
Our Mission is threefold. First, our initiative puts restaurant workers, who were recently let go due to the Covid-19 crisis, back to work. Second, we utilize high-quality food that would have been otherwise wasted. Third, we produce mass quantities of prepared to-go meals to target those in need. We have refrigerated, warm, and frozen capabilities available for pick-up or to be delivered to those in need in our community of Northern Virginia.
Why donate? For every dollar you contribute– you directly impact the fight against hunger in the local community, reduce food waste, and provide employment for many affected by the pandemic. Donate now and be a Food Hero!
